Excerpt from GEMINI
"What are you?" Ian demanded.
Sara couldn't suppress a chill at the direct question. Her skin crawled at the way he studied her, and she hesitated before saying, "You've seen me shapeshift. I can read minds sometimes."
"I've got time for the long version," he said coldly.
She stamped down her panic, and drew a long sigh. "Telekinesis. I caught you with telekinesis."
He eyed her as if she were a poisonous snake. "How did you get telekinesis?"
"It's not like they hand it out in stores!" she cried. "It just ... happened one day. I didn't know what it was. I was afraid of it for a long time."
"And now you're not."
His words stabbed at her heart, but she refused to let him see that. "Yeah. Now I'm not."
"When did your father die? How did he die?"
She narrowed her eyes. "What has any of this got to do with my father?"
"Maybe nothing. Could be more. This stuff might be genetic."
Icy dread crawled across her skin, and she hugged herself. "I'm done talking to you."
Quick as lightning, he reached forward and snatched the boat keys from the ignition. "We're not going anywhere until you talk." He stared at her, waiting.
She felt naked, watching the hostile distrust in his eyes. A shiver of awareness danced down her back. "This isn't about me ... it's about you," she realized.
"Never mind me," he snapped.
"What is it?" she asked. "What happened to you?"
"How did your father die?"
She winced, and felt angry tears burn in her eyes. "He. Was. Murdered."
